About Us
OUR MISSION
TDI champions accessibility, inclusion, and innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT) for persons with disabilities, older Americans, and veterans. While our roots are in advocating for Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing (DDBDDHH) communities, we now embrace a broader mission—one that ensures no individual is left behind in the digital age.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where accessibility is embedded into every innovation, not added as an afterthought. Whether it’s AI developed with thoughtful guardrails, emergency communication systems that are fully accessible, or digital platforms designed for all users, we are committed to a future where technology benefits everyone.
Our Story
Since 1968, TDI has been the leading organization fostering accessibility and inclusion in ICT for the deaf and hard of hearing communities. Our core mission remains steadfast in advocating for these communities; however, our goal is to expand our unique community by inviting stakeholders and consumer organizations involved with ICT to join our mission.
Your contributions and support make TDI’s impact stronger as we advocate for policy, regulations, and legislation to ensure accessibility for all individuals with disabilities. We collaborate with industry stakeholders, policymakers, and advocacy organizations who share our mission and believe in the power of communication equity. This collaboration expands our impact to include all our valued supporters who help TDI reach more lives. It’s a crucial time to broaden our reach as technology evolves rapidly, impacting accessibility to ICT in health, education, employment, media, and virtual communication platforms.
Who We Are
For over 50 years, TDI has been a driving force for change, working to break down barriers to communication equity, accessibility, and inclusion. From reshaping how technology serves individuals to influencing policies that promote inclusion, we advocate for a world where technology enables everyone—persons with disabilities, older adults, and veterans—to thrive and participate fully in all aspects of life.
Why It Matters
Technology touches every part of our lives—whether it’s education, employment, healthcare, or staying connected with loved ones. As ICT evolves, so must the policies and practices that govern it. Our expanded focus ensures that persons with disabilities, older adults, and veterans have equitable access to these technologies, empowering them to thrive and lead full, independent lives.
Guiding Our Mission
At TDI, we are committed to transparency and accountability in all aspects of our work.
Our Bylaws outline the principles and policies that govern our organization, ensuring we operate with integrity and purpose.
Our Strategic Plan serves as a roadmap for advancing accessibility and inclusion through advocacy, collaboration, and innovation. It reflects our commitment to creating meaningful change for individuals with disabilities, older adults, and veterans as technology evolves.
